As part of the £4 million restoration of the Yorvik Viking Centre in York - a major attraction welcoming millions of visitors annually - Janet Parkin of the York Glaziers Trust has designed and made a panel for their newly expanded museum. Depicting vikings in their longboats, the stained glass panel sits alongside items on loan from the British Museum, and was inspired by a Viking-age illustration of vikings disembarking their ships, with weapons in hand. The stoneyard have contributed a replica of the Middleton Cross, and so for the first time the displays at the Viking Centre incorporates Christian iconography alongside Norse paganism. The window takes pride of place in the new galleries, appearing at the entrance.
