March’s Panel of the Month

York Minster, Great East Window, 3c, The Elders Worship God (Rev 19: 1-4)

Before image.

In the centre of the panel sits God in majesty, wearing purple and white robes, with both hands raised.  Surrounding the figure of God is a pale blue cloud.  Twelve elders, all wearing golden crowns, sit on carved benches and raise their hands in worshipful gestures.

Conservators removed the blank, pink stopgap pieces in the robes of God and replaced them with new glass matched to the original murry colour.  Two new rays were added to continue the original rays painted behind the hands of God.
